Awareness levels on global warming and climate change vary from country to country. In the United Kingdom the media are fortunate to have access to the knowledge and research of prominent scientists who are experts on the reality of global change. Climate change is a very big issue in Britain and there is a general understanding it's a serious matter for everyone.
In India there is also a huge interest in environmental awareness which is being lead by the Government with a lot of public debate on environmental pollution and the effects of rapid industrialization.
In some of the Asian countries there is little awareness, but in countries like Indonesia there is a visible human tragedy where natural disasters have struck revealing in real time the terrible impact of climate change.
Indonesia is on the front line of global warming. It's a horrible situation for Indonesia which is a poor country that's gone through two years of hell with a tsunami, bird flu and a horrendous monsoon season that resulted in major flooding.
The world is fortunate that there are some of the best environmental and science journalists who are reporting and analyzing all the facts on climate change. The world's populations from the community level up to heads of government need to be presented with all the facts so that the important issues - like carbon emissions levels - are not clouded over by theories and rhetoric.
The science experts have produced reliable evidence that climate change is caused by humans and now the world has to face up to the truth and searching for solutions. It will be enormously difficult to find solutions that will work, but at least there is an awareness that the Earth's warming can't keep on rising without severe consequences.
