HUMANITY ON THE PATHWAY TO EXTINCTION

By: John Everingham

Frankly, I am very pessimistic about the future for human beings. I just can't see how the human race can retrieve its spiraling relationship with the Earth and nature.

The dual issues of global warming and climate change are rooted with the fundamental problem that there are far too many people living on the planet.

The Earth is battling to sustain seven billion people. What will happen when the populations rise to nine and ten million humans? How can there be a sustainable system when human populations keep increasing and consuming more and more of limited resources. The oceans are being fished out to the max and demand is exceeding supply for food and consumer goods.

There is much concern in western developed countries about climate change, but the local populations in the under developed world either don't understand or don't care. The poor want what the rich have got and there just isn't enough resources to go round. And the elite who run the financial world live on a culture that is based around urban living with no connection to nature or any regard to the Earth's sustainability.

There are many Asian countries where the majority of the people come from the farm and they stay on the farm or go back to the farm after having a city experience. But the entire financial ruling class are only interested in money. They have no affinity for the land, nature or the health of the planet.

I believe we are fast approaching an inevitable crunch time. I don't believe the human race will be able to continue for another hundred years. Not unless there are some major changes in attitudes and action, and I can't see any evidence that people will want to change.

Fisheries are collapsing around the world. You can't take what's not there, and when resources became scarce there will be more wars.

It in Africa and Asia where people suffer the most. Many rich countries have eating contests while people in the other side of the world are dying because they don't have enough food to eat! What a shame.
